From decorated fighter pilot, war hero and rising military star to accused traitor, exile, and drug smuggler, Jerrik Larson has finally hit rock bottom. Shot down on the cold watery world of Ægir, he's marooned with a dead ship, alone on a harsh, uninhabited planet, desperately struggling to save the only thing he has left to lose his life. He's in for a surprise, because Ægir has its own secrets, including one worth an incalculable fortune that has the potential to change not only the Federation of Allied Sectors and its most basic technology, but humanity itself...if he can just get it off that freezing ball of water and rock. But the world has another secret as well, and one that will affect him far more; Jerrik is not as alone as he thinks he is. When his past finally tracks him down, Jerrik finds himself battling, not only for survival this time, but for his honor, his fortune and his race...and for love, with the future of all of White Space riding in the balance.

I finished this book in less than two days, despite work, training and other duties. Every minute available, I read. The mind that created this masterpiece is far richer than any I have encountered thus far. This is very, very original. The only thing remotely like this is Frank Herbert's Dune series, which are rather dull in comparison!Hats off to Gregory Kay. PLEASE continue this series!

The Barnacles of Ægir Gregory Kay 9781467913119 Books Reviews
The Barnacles of Ægir, set in the far future, is an exceptionally well crafted tale of betrayal, loss, desperation and bravery in extreme circumstances. The story reflects the deep spirituality of the characters and the author.
The hero, a cashiered military officer accused of a crime he didn't commit, driven by desperation to acts he would normally consider dishonorable, rediscovers himself after being shipwrecked on an hauntingly beautiful Alien world. Having resigned himself to living out the remainder of his life in solitary fashion, he survives the worse that nature can throw at him and overcomes many physical obstacles.
There is a Zen principle at work here in being able to step outside oneself, thus letting go of all Earthly cares and becoming one with the environment rather than attempting to conquer it.
In time he comes to love Ægir, and only after making peace with himself does he learn that he is not alone after all.
The author, Gregory Kay, can spin a good yarn. Having read some of his other books, specifically the Third Revolution series, and being partial to science fiction I was keen to read this novel. Mr. Kay did not disappoint. I whole heartily recommend this book.
My husband enjoyed reading The Barnacles of Aegir. He said that there was in-depth character development and an engrossing plot. The development of the exo-life forms was also very interesting to him.
This is the first book I have read by author Gregory Kay and I loved it! The way the book seamlessly blends the cultures of the old world with the new cannot help but strike a chord with the reader. Make them feel like they are truly part of this strange new world. Once I started it, I had difficulty putting it down. Highest recommendations!
Jerrik is pretty bad ass, and is a great example of how a man should be. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Great descriptions, adventure, love and even fight scenes. What more could one want?
Excellent read! I owe a debt to Gregory Kay for rediscovering the joy of reading and stepping out of time and my current stressors into another world and losing myself in it. The descriptive imagery rivals that of any of the classics of literature. It's also action packed, excellent character development, depicts the chivalry and moral fiber at the height of Christian civilization (now mostly lost), and a real page turner. My only complaint is that it ended too soon. But... it was wonderful to experience again, after so long, that feeling of loss I used to feel when I read a great book and it ended.
Not your average PC science fiction (A John Scalzi fan's head would probably explode upon reading it), but an uncommon and interesting concept, well developed. If you're not the hypersensitive type, try Gregory Kay's near-future series about a second "Civil War."
